Saw this trompe l’oeil pleat print dress at the Met’s Prada/Schiap show.  Usually fashion/costume exhibitions draw a lot of their potency from delivering an IRL glimpse into the craftsmanship and materials of the pieces, but, to me, the strength here was Prada’s ideas.  Throughout the exhibition, giant screens played potentially tacky videos of Miuccia talking to Elsa Schiaparelli, played by Judy Davis.  Since Prada did most of the talking, it was an engaging way to feed her abstract ideas to the slow moving attendees.  The clothes themselves photograph really well, and the book expands on these thoughts, so it might be a better option than even the actual show.

Of course, we really related to the trompe l’oeil pieces here at Thursday Friday!
